Visions of Spring
Welcome to March, the time when we can almost touch Spring. It is often the time that we think about whether we have kept our New Year's Resolutions. Did you keep everything on your list? If not, you may want to try something different and celebrate Spring with a rebirth of your own, I invite you to try a concept called visioning.
What is visioning? It's a little like playing make believe when you were a kid. For example, my four year old son loves it when we create stories of what he will do when he grows up. There's the story of him becoming an astronaut; the story of him becoming an Olympic snowboarder; and the story of him playing championship golf. Yes, these stories are not true ...yet. But by tapping into his passion and creativity, we are teaching him that anything is possible.
Visioning is a well-used technique. Olympic skiers visualize crossing the finish line before anyone else, so they can claim a gold medal. American Indians believe that if you offer your visualization to the universe, the universe will conspire to make it come true.
Instead of making resolutions, instead of thinking that your dreams are not realistic, I invite you to tap into your passion and creativity and design a personal vision. Answer these questions and you will be on your way:
- What do you really want?
- Why do you want it?
- How will you feel once you get it?
- What will it take to get it?
- How will you know when you've achieved your vision?
Once you have answered these basic questions, describe it to a friend. You will know if you have created a clear vision if there is passion in your voice and if your friend can picture it for you.
I don’t know if my son will become an astronaut, a snowboarder or golf player but I do know that as we tell each other stories I am teaching him that if you dare to dream and share it with others, anything is possible.
